Alibaba Cloud entered the South African market in 2022 through local partner BCX. In 2025, it launched a South African Edge Node Service (ENS) node, deploying computing, storage, and networking capabilities in ISP data centers closer to end users to serve low-latency and local-data-processing needs in e-commerce, gaming, video, finance, manufacturing, and other industries.

Localized cloud deployment: edge nodes bring computing capacity into South African ISP data centers to address local data-compliance, low-latency, and cross-border bandwidth-cost requirements.
