How to read these numbers: A purposive, publicly sourced case library, not a probability sample: counts describe the library, not market share. Monetary figures mix investment, revenue and user metrics — treat them as magnitude markers and defer to the verbatim description and source link.

What happened

Hikvision operates in Indonesia through a local entity (with a Country Manager) and its distribution partner PT Pasifik Teknologi Indonesia; in 2018 it launched an AI-based smart-city solution in Jakarta covering object detection, facial recognition, automatic number-plate recognition (ANPR) and pedestrian-flow counting, and states that it has participated in smart-city development in cities including Jakarta, Tangerang and Surabaya. According to trade media, it also developed a customised AIoT traffic-violation enforcement solution for the Indonesian traffic police.

Localisation & innovation

Customised violation-detection for Indonesia's Korlantas ETLE programme (running red lights, driving against traffic, lane encroachment, illegal parking, motorcyclists not wearing helmets, odd-even licence-plate restrictions, speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, and using a mobile phone while driving), deploying 9MP ANPR cameras integrated with the government's electronic ticketing platform (Hikvision press release, 18 October 2022)

Sources & notes

Record note: Details of the traffic police AIoT project are drawn from a search-result summary of International Security Journal; the page was redirected to a section landing page on this access attempt, so the original article should be re-checked. Hikvision's involvement in sensitive applications such as facial recognition and the related controversy over US and European sanctions are provided as background information, not facts established by sources used in this record; researchers should phrase citations of this record with care.
