What happened

GDS launched its Nusajaya Tech Park (NTP) data-centre campus in Iskandar Puteri, Johor in August 2023. Phase 1 comprises NTP1, NTP2 and NTP3 with 22,500 sqm (242,200 sq ft) of net floor area and 69.5 MW of IT power; GDS acquired the land in July 2021 and broke ground in April 2022 (roughly 16 months to delivery, ahead of the originally planned 2024 date). GDS CEO William Huang described the campus as a catalyst for the region's journey towards a world-class AI computing hub. GDS's international business was spun off as DayOne at the start of 2025. In June 2025 DayOne signed a 21-year contract for up to 500 MW of solar power with Tenaga Nasional Berhad under Malaysia's Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS), covering Nusajaya Tech Park and Kempas Tech Park, whose combined data-centre capacity is 120 MW.

Localisation & innovation

Overseas export of an intelligent Smart-DC construction-and-operations solution, achieving delivery in 14 months; a SIJORI cross-border hub model (Singapore connectivity + Johor land and energy + Batam expansion); a localized green-power-plus-energy-storage solution.

Scale

Phase 1 (NTP1-NTP3): 22,500 sqm net floor area and 69.5MW IT power (DatacenterDynamics, 11 Aug 2023). Nusajaya Tech Park and Kempas Tech Park have a combined data center capacity of 120MW (DatacenterDynamics, 12 Jun 2025). DayOne closed a RM15bn (approximately US$3.5bn) multi-currency financing (SolarQuarter, 16 Jun 2025). The previous 'Phase 2 50MW' phase-two figure is removed: it appears in no source I could locate.

Magnitude marker: ~3,500,000,000 USD

Sources & notes

Record note: GDS is Shanghai-headquartered (NASDAQ: GDS / HKEX: 9698). Its international business was spun off and rebranded as DayOne at the start of 2025 after a Series B round; GDS retains a 35.6% non-controlling stake (DatacenterDynamics, 12 Aug 2025), so the 'Chinese-capital origin' framing is correct, but DayOne is no longer a GDS subsidiary and should not be described as one. The originally cited GDS press-release URL (gds-services.com/en/newsshow_82.html) is dead — it returns 'Information not found!' and the item is absent from the GDS press-release index at gds-services.com/en/news_19.html — hence the source swap to the DatacenterDynamics report of the same launch. in_esg_report='Yes' could not be independently verified.
